Are Health Club Promotions Worth Their While?
With society turning the corner from obesity to health, the market for health clubs is growing at an ever increasing rate. However, an increase of supply within the market means that health club's prices will inevitably go down if they want customers to come to them, over competitors. As a result, many health clubs run promotions to get new members to join their club, usually with lower pricing; as, after all, if the clubs are all good, then you'll go to the one with the lowest price.
The Context...
It's not as easy for clubs to just set a low price and hope for the best, as with the current state of the health club market, many clubs are having to spend a lot of their marketing budget on advertising for their promotions. The desired effect is that once plenty of potential customers are aware of their superior pricing plan, the cheaper health clubs can reap the rewards of increased memberships from their efforts in advertising.
Why Promotions are Great for You
The best part about health club promotions? They're completely beneficial for you in two ways: they reduce the strain on your wallet whilst improving your fitness and strength goals. You couldn't ask for a better deal! You're probably worried about the fact that many gyms ask for a minimum term membership when you join during a promotion period. However, many gyms are realizing there are plenty of customers who will purchase membership on a monthly-rolling basis. As a result, promotions are also starting to include "1 month trial memberships" or "3 month half price periods", which can only mean one thing; reduced cost for you, whilst retaining the flexibility to move to a better health club deal if one crops up.
The Problem with Moving Around
This may all sound great so far, and if you're only interested in going to the gym if you can get the best deal possible with your money, then you'll have to stick to the promotion-switching approach (as outlined previously). However, if you're a normal gym member and all you want to do is set off with a good deal and good value for money, you may be better just finding a good promotion and sticking with it. And here's why...
If you're constantly switching gyms, not only will your letterbox be bombarded with promotions from all the gyms you've joined (which will further fuel your promotion chase!), but you'll also find yourself continually adapting to new opening hours, environments, equipment, journeys-to-and-fro, standards, people and rules. That may seem a bit of a mouthful because it is; gym members like to stay put so long as they're getting a good deal due to the hassle associated with constantly switching gyms.
You'll have probably decided which approach you wish to take by now, however one important note to end on, is that; if you do decide to switch gyms every couple of months in search of better health club promotions, you may end up investing more effort in the search than it's worth.
