Health Club Franchises Are The Way To Go

Big name health clubs are a dime a dozen in every major metropolitan area these days. So evidently, you're never too far away from a top-brand health club. But, a question to ask would be; how do these big names manage to put out so many facilities? It all comes down to an essential part of many large health club business plans: health club franchises.

Instead of owning a chain of health clubs, many large fitness corporations find it profitable to offer out their branding and business plans to entrepreneurs, in a form of a franchise agreement. Such an agreement allows those with a desire to own their own health club, under the name of a larger company.

What it Provides to Franchisees

The advantage of starting your own health club business within a franchise agreement is that the capital investment and information required to start the health club with is far less than if you were to go it alone. Many fitness and health club companies, such as 'Snap Fitness', offer a boosted financial input, and provide the business plan to a model health club, so that their franchisees can get up to scratch as quickly as possible.

The main downside to owning a health club within a franchise agreement, is that not all profits go to the franchisee. Many of the profits will be used as repayment on the initial loan and commission to the greater company that owns the franchise. Another disadvantage for the franchisee is that they have to adopt the brand of the health club company, and not their own. However, this is obviously a big plus for the health club company, as their brand awareness greatly increases.

What it Provides to The Health Club Companies

And thus, we move onto the advantages to the health club firms that franchise their business out to entrepreneurs. By marketing their health club franchise as a great proposition, a sound business plan and low investment can attract many potential business owners. As mentioned, the brand of the health club company also feels a boost.

The idea behind franchising also leaves a lot of lower-end management up to the franchisee, reducing strain and employee costs on the greater health club business itself. As a result, a growing company becomes more manageable, due to the many franchisees below it.

To Franchise or Not to Franchise?

When assessing the likely potential of a franchise proposition, it is important to look at the health club business' long term goals and future. In effect, the financial stability and gains should be weighed against the outcomes of opening a chain of health clubs and between franchising out the brand. Whichever route a health club goes down, they are likely to succeed with a sound business plan. It's harder to build up a brand with a chain, but the potential gains and shareholder profits to be made tend to be far greater than that of a franchising company.
